दारणं मर्मसन्ध्यादिस्थिते चान्यत्र पाटनम्। आमच्छेदे सिरास्नायुव्यापदोऽसृगतिस्रुतिः॥११॥

Darana – making the abscess burst by application of Alkalies (Kshara) whereas in other cases except the above, the treatment is – Patana - cutting open by sharp instruments. Cutting an unripe swelling leads to diseases of the veins and tendons, profuse bleeding, immense pain, tearing of the skin or Visarpa (spreading ulcers).
