इयं भूमिरवद्यानां दौःशील्यस्येदमास्पदम् । एकोऽयं बहुमार्गाय दुर्गतेर्देशिकः परम् ॥ ६ ॥
This is the ultimate ground for all blameworthy actions and the very breeding place of all vices. Madya (wine) alone is the chief guide among the innumerable pathways leading to utter ruin and self-destruction.
english translation
iyaM bhUmiravadyAnAM dauHzIlyasyedamAspadam । eko'yaM bahumArgAya durgaterdezikaH param ॥ 6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनिश्चेष्टः शववच्छेते तृतीये तु मदे स्थितः । मरणादपि पापात्मा गतः पापतरां दशाम् ॥ ७ ॥
In the third stage of intoxication, the person lies on the ground, movement–less like a cadaver, a greater sinner than the one who dead, going through different stage of grave sins.

nizceSTaH zavavacchete tRtIye tu made sthitaH । maraNAdapi pApAtmA gataH pApatarAM dazAm ॥ 7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptधर्माधर्मं सुखं दुःखमर्थानर्थं हिताहितम् । यदासक्तो न जानाति कथं तच्छीलयेद्बुधः ॥ ८ ॥
He who is addicted (to wine) does not understand what is right and what is wrong, what is true happiness and what is unhappiness, what is beneficial and what is non-beneficial (for the present and future lives), or what is suitable and what is unsuitable (to his health, right living, etc.). With these bad effects, how could a wise person ever indulge in it?

dharmAdharmaM sukhaM duHkhamarthAnarthaM hitAhitam । yadAsakto na jAnAti kathaM tacchIlayedbudhaH ॥ 8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमद्ये मोहो भयं शोकः क्रोधो मृत्युश्च संश्रिताः । सोन्मादमदमूर्छायाः सापस्मारापतानकाः ॥ ९ ॥
In wine reside delusion, fear, grief, anger, and even death, as well as insanity, infatuation, fainting (murcha), epilepsy (apasmara), and tetanus or severe convulsions (apatanaka).

madye moho bhayaM zokaH krodho mRtyuzca saMzritAH । sonmAdamadamUrchAyAH sApasmArApatAnakAH ॥ 9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयत्रैकः स्मृतिविभ्रंशस्तत्र सर्वमसाधु यत् । अयुक्तियुक्तमन्नं हि व्याधये मरणाय वा ॥ १० ॥
When loss of memory (awareness of surroundings, common sense, etc.) alone is present, then all the activities of the person become improper (what to say when all the other evils are present as well). Even normal food, if partaken in a wrong way, leads to either disease or death.

yatraikaH smRtivibhraMzastatra sarvamasAdhu yat । ayuktiyuktamannaM hi vyAdhaye maraNAya vA ॥ 10 ॥
