दूष्य युक्त दुष्ट पार्ष्णि ग्राहयोर् दूष्य युक्तम् आप्त पुरुष अधिष्ठितम् असंहतं युध्येत, न दुष्ट पार्ष्णि ग्राहं पृष्ठ अभिघात त्रस्तम् ॥
Of armies either filled with traitors, or frightened by an enemy in the rear, that which is full of traitors may be taken to fight apart under the leadership of a trusted commander, but not the army which is afraid of an attack from the rear.
english translation
dUSya yukta duSTa pArSNi grAhayor dUSya yuktam Apta puruSa adhiSThitam asaMhataM yudhyeta, na duSTa pArSNi grAhaM pRSTha abhighAta trastam ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशून्य मूल अस्वामि संहतयोः शून्य मूलं कृत पौर जानपद आरक्षं सर्व संदोहेन युध्येत, न अस्वामि संहतं राज सेना पति हीनम् ॥
Of armies without communication or without leaders, that which has lost its communication with the base of operations may be taken to fight after restoring the communication and placing it under the protection of citizens and country people, but not the army which is without a leader such as the king or any other persons.
english translation
zUnya mUla asvAmi saMhatayoH zUnya mUlaM kRta paura jAnapada ArakSaM sarva saMdohena yudhyeta, na asvAmi saMhataM rAja senA pati hInam ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभिन्न कूट अन्धयोर् भिन्न कूटम् अन्य अधिष्ठितं युध्येत, न अन्धम् अदेशिकं इति ॥
Of troops which have lost their leader or which are not trained, those that have lost their leader may be taken to fight under the leadership of a different person but not the troops which are not trained.
english translation
bhinna kUTa andhayor bhinna kUTam anya adhiSThitaM yudhyeta, na andham adezikaM iti ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदोष शुद्धिर् बल आवापः सत्त्र स्थान अतिसंहितम् । संधिश् च उत्तर पक्षस्य बल व्यसन साधनम् ॥
Removal of vices and troubles, recruitment (of new men), keeping away from places of an enemy's ambush, and harmony among the officers of the army, are the means of protecting the army from troubles.
english translation
doSa zuddhir bala AvApaH sattra sthAna atisaMhitam । saMdhiz ca uttara pakSasya bala vyasana sAdhanam ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptरक्षेत् स्व दण्डं व्यसने शत्रुभ्यो नित्यम् उत्थितः । प्रहरेद् दण्ड रन्ध्रेषु शत्रूणां नित्यम् उत्थितः ॥
He (the king) should ever carefully guard his army from the troubles caused by an enemy, and should ever be ready to strike his enemy's army when the latter is under troubles.

rakSet sva daNDaM vyasane zatrubhyo nityam utthitaH । prahared daNDa randhreSu zatrUNAM nityam utthitaH ॥
