यतो निमित्तं व्यसनं प्रकृतीनाम् अवाप्नुयात् । प्राग् एव प्रतिकुर्वीत तन् निमित्तम् अतन्द्रितः॥
Whatever he may come to know as the source of trouble to his people, he should quickly and carefully apply antidotes against that cause.
english translation
yato nimittaM vyasanaM prakRtInAm avApnuyAt । prAg eva pratikurvIta tan nimittam atandritaH॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअभियातं स्वयं मित्रं सम्भूय अन्य वशेन वा ॥ परित्यक्तम् अशक्त्या वा लोभेन प्रणयेन वा ।
A friend who, by himself, or in combination with others or under the influence of another king, has marched against his own ally, a friend who is abandoned owing to inability to retain his friendship, or owing to greediness or indifference.
english translation
abhiyAtaM svayaM mitraM sambhUya anya vazena vA ॥ parityaktam azaktyA vA lobhena praNayena vA ।
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविक्रीतम् अभियुञ्जाने संग्रामे वा अपवर्तिना ॥ द्वैधी भावेन वा अमित्रं यास्यता वा अन्यम् अन्यतः ।
A friend who is bought by another and who has withdrawn himself from fighting

vikrItam abhiyuJjAne saMgrAme vA apavartinA ॥ dvaidhI bhAvena vA amitraM yAsyatA vA anyam anyataH ।
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपृथग् वा सह याने वा विश्वासेन अतिसंहितम् ॥ भय अवमान आलस्यैर् वा व्यसनान् न प्रमोक्षितम् ॥
A friend who, following the policy of making peace with one and marching against another, has contracted friendship with one, who is going to march either singly or in combination with others against an ally;

pRthag vA saha yAne vA vizvAsena atisaMhitam ॥ bhaya avamAna Alasyair vA vyasanAn na pramokSitam ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअवरुद्धं स्व भूमिभ्यः समीपाद् वा भयाद् गतम् ॥ आच्छेदनाद् अदानाद् वा दत्त्वा वा अप्य् अवमानितम् ॥
A friend who is not relieved from his troubles owing to fear, contempt, or indifference; a friend who is surrounded in his own place or who has run away owing to fear;

avaruddhaM sva bhUmibhyaH samIpAd vA bhayAd gatam ॥ AcchedanAd adAnAd vA dattvA vA apy avamAnitam ॥
