तेषां नामभिरेवाकृतयः प्रायेण व्याख्याताः ॥६॥

Their forms are explained for the most part by their names.

तत्र नखशस्त्रैषण्यावष्टाङ्गुले , सूच्यो वक्ष्यन्ते, (प्रदेशिन्यग्रपर्वप्रदेशप्रमाणा मुद्रिका, दशाङ्गुला शरारिमुखी सा च (या सा) कर्तरीति कथ्यते) । शेषाणि तु षडङ्गुलानि ॥७॥

Among them, the nail-cutter and the awl are eight-angula, the needles will be described (a ring of the size of the tip of the thumb, a ten-angula needle-mouth, and that is called a cutter). The remaining ones are six-angula.

english translation

तानि सुग्रहाणि, सुलोहानि, सुधाराणि, सुरूपाणि, सुसमाहितमुखाग्राणि, अकरालानि, चेति शस्त्रसम्पत् ॥८॥

They are well-grasped, well-made of iron, well-sharpened, well-formed, well-joined at the tips, not terrifying, and so on - this is the perfection of weapons.

तत्र वक्रं, कुण्ठं, खण्डं, खरधारम्, अतिस्थूलम्, अत्यल्पम्, अतिदीर्घम्, अतिह्रस्वम्, इत्यष्टौ शस्त्रदोषाः । अतो विपरीतगुणमाददीत, अन्यत्र करपत्रात्; तद्धि खरधारमस्थिच्छेदनार्थम् ॥९॥

There, the eight faults of a weapon are: crooked, lame, broken, with a rough edge, too thick, too small, too long, and too short. One should take one with opposite qualities, except for a razor; that has a rough edge for cutting bone.

तत्र धारा भेदनानां मासूरी, लेखनानामर्धमासूरी, व्यधनानां विस्रावणानां च कैशिकी, छेदनानामर्धकैशिकीति ॥१०॥

There, for the incisions, it is a māṣūrī, for the scratches, it is half a māṣūrī, for the pricks and the exuding, it is a kaiśikī, for the cuts, it is half a kaiśikī.
