Now, we shall explain the Chapter on the mode of administering emetics (Vamana-Dravya-Vikalpa-Vijnaniya-adhyaya). Among emetic drugs like fruits, Madana fruits are considered the best. The dried Madana flowers should be ground into powder and mixed with a decoction of Pratyakpushpa, Sadapushpi, or Nimba. This paste, combined with honey and rock salt, should be administered to the patient to induce vomiting. Alternatively, the powders of Madana fruit mixed with honey and salt, or those mixed with Bakula and Ramyaka, should be heated and given. A gruel made from sesame and rice cooked with the powder of Madana fruit can also be used. Additionally, fruits from grains like barley, wheat, green gram, black gram, and rice, which have been harvested, not too green or yellowish, and tied with Kusha grass, smeared with clay and cow dung, and kept in a heap for eight nights, should be moistened and split. These should then be dried in the sun, crushed after being pressed with curd, honey, and oil, and stored in a good vessel. A fistful of this mixture should be soaked overnight in warm Yastimadhu decoction or any decoction of Kovidara, mixed with honey and rock salt, and given to the patient facing north or east, after reciting the following mantra: “Brahma, Daksha, the Ashvins, Rudra, Indra, the Earth, the Moon, the Sun, the Fire, and the Wind, May the sages, along with the groups of herbs and the hosts of beings, protect you all.”
