नाहरत्यन्नमास्यस्थं न धारयति यः शिरः । एकाग्रदृष्टिर्मूढात्मा सद्यः प्राणान् जहाति सः ॥११॥

A patient who is incapable of swallowing food, unable to hold up his head, and whose gaze is fixed in a kind of daze, should be deemed as dying on that very day.

english translation

जिस रोगी को भोजन निगलने में कठिनाई हो, सिर को थाम नहीं सकता, और जिसकी दृष्टि एक प्रकार की मूढ़ता में स्थिर हो, उसे उसी दिन मृत्यु की ओर बढ़ता माना जाना चाहिए।

बलवान् दुर्बलो वाऽपि सम्मोहं योऽधिगच्छति । उत्थाप्यमानो बहुशस्तं पक्वं भिषगादिशेत् ॥१२॥

A wise or prudent physician should give up the medical treatment of a patient, no matter whether strong or weak, who is found to be fainting away every time he is lifted up or seated.

एक समझदार या बुद्धिमान चिकित्सक को किसी रोगी की चिकित्सा छोड़ देनी चाहिए, चाहे वह बलवान हो या दुर्बल, जो हर बार उठाने या बैठाने पर बेहोश हो जाता है।

उत्तानः सर्वदा शेते पादौ विकुरुते च यः । विप्रसारणशीलो वा न स जीवति मानवः ॥१३॥

The patient who constantly extends or draws up his lower extremities, or keeps them in a gathered up posture, should be looked upon as rapidly succumbing.

जिस रोगी के पांव हमेशा फैले हुए रहते हैं या वह उन्हें एकत्रित रखता है, उसे जल्दी मरने वाला माना जाना चाहिए।

शीतपादकरोच्छ्वासश्छिन्नोच्छ्वासश्च यो भवेत् । काकोच्छ्वासश्च यो मर्त्यस्तं धीरः परिवर्जयेत् ॥१४॥

A wise physician should abandon a patient characterized by the coldness of his breath and extremities, hurried and intermittent respiration, or who breathes with his mouth open.

जिस रोगी की सांस और अंग ठंडे हों, जो जल्दी-जल्दी और असमान तरीके से सांस लेता हो, या जो मुंह से सांस लेता हो, उसे समझदार चिकित्सक को छोड़ देना चाहिए।

निद्रा न छिद्यते यस्य यो वा जागर्ति सर्वदा । मुह्येद्वा वक्तुकामश्च प्रत्याख्येयः स जानता ॥१५॥

Similarly, a patient affected with a kind of stupor or insomnia and remaining drowsy all day long, or fainting at the least attempt of speaking, should be counted with the dead.

जिस रोगी को मृदु या नींद की बीमारी हो और जो पूरे दिन सुस्त रहे, या बात करने की कोशिश में भी बेहोश हो जाए, उसे मृत मान लेना चाहिए।
