तत्र ‘वा’ गतिगन्धनयोः, इति धातुः, ‘तप’ सन्तापे, ‘श्लिष’ आलिङ्गने, एतेषां कृद्विहितैः प्रत्ययैर्वातः पित्तं श्लेष्मेति च रूपाणि भवन्ति ॥५॥
The root 'Va' refers to movement and binding, 'Tapa' refers to heating, and 'Shlish' refers to embracing or enveloping. With the appropriate grammatical forms (affixes), these take the forms of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

यहाँ 'वा' धातु गति और गंधन (बाँधने) के अर्थ में आता है। 'तप' धातु ताप (संताप) के अर्थ में और 'श्लिष' धातु आलिंगन (लपेटने) के अर्थ में प्रयोग होता है। इन सभी के लिए विभिन्न कृद्विहित प्रत्ययों द्वारा वायु, पित्त और कफ के रूप बनते हैं।
