The location of mucus above, we will explain. There, the stomach (āmaśaya) is situated above the bile (pittāśaya), due to its counter-position and its upward movement, resembling the moon relative to the sun, and it is the support for the four types of food. Thus, the food there, being diluted by the qualities of water, becomes dissolved, distinct in composition, and causes comfort and old age.

The mucous in the chest supports the functions of the three systems (trikā-śandhāraṇa) and provides nourishment to the heart (hṛdaya) with the help of the body's own energy (ātma-vīrya) and nutrients. The mucous at the base of the tongue (jihvā-mūla) and in the throat (kaṇṭha) ensures proper sensory perception due to its mildness (saumya) and completeness in sensory knowledge (samyak-rasa-jñāna). The mucous in the head (śiraḥ) is responsible for nourishing the senses (indriyāṇām) due to its role in providing lubrication (sneha-santarpaṇa). The mucous present in the joints (sandhi) supports the joints' functions by maintaining their cohesion and providing overall joint support.
