तत्र प्रस्पन्दनोद्वहनपूरणविवेकधारणलक्षणो वायुः पञ्चधा प्रविभक्तः शरीरं धारयति || रागपक्त्योजस्तेजोमेधोष्मकृत् पित्तं पञ्चधा प्रविभक्तमग्निकर्मणाऽनुग्रहं करोति; || सन्धिसंश्लेषणस्नेहनरोपणपूरणबलस्थैर्यकृच्छ्लेष्मा पञ्चधा प्रविभक्त उदककर्मणाऽनुग्रहं करोति ||४||

The vayu (air) is divided into five types based on its functions: praspandan (motion), udvahana (transport), purana (filling), viveka (discrimination), and dharana (holding). It sustains the body by these functions. Pitta (bile) is also divided into five types: raga (color), pakti (digestive process), ojas (vital energy), tejas (heat), and medha (intellect). It performs its functions in the body by supporting the actions of the digestive fire. Kapha (mucus) is divided into five types: sandhi (joints), samsleshana (cohesion), sneha (lubrication), ropana (healing), and purana (filling). It aids the body by performing the functions of lubrication and hydration.

रसस्तुष्टिं प्रीणनं रक्तपुष्टिं च करोति, रक्तं वर्णप्रसादं मांसपुष्टिं जीवयति च, मांसं शरीरपुष्टिं मेदसश्च, मेदः स्नेहस्वेदौ दृढत्वं पुष्टिमस्थ्नां च, अस्थीनि देहधारणं मज्ज्ञः पुष्टिं च, मज्जा स्नेहं बलं शुक्रपुष्टिं पूरणमस्थ्नां च करोति, शुक्रं धैर्यं च्यवनं प्रीतिं देहबलं हर्षं बीजार्थं च; || पुरीषमुपस्तम्भं वाय्वग्निधारणं च, बस्तिपूरणविक्लेदकृन्मूत्रं, स्वेदः क्लेदत्वक्सौकुमार्यकृत्; || रक्तलक्षणमार्तवं गर्भकृच्च, गर्भो गर्भलक्षणं, स्तन्यं स्तनयोरापीनत्वजननं जीवनं चेति ||५||

Rasa (nutritional fluid) brings satisfaction and nourishes the blood. Rakta (blood) enhances complexion, and nourishes the muscles and gives life. Mamsa (muscle) provides strength to the body and nourishes the fat. Meda (fat) gives lubrication, helps in sweating, provides firmness, and nourishes the bones. Asthi (bones) support the body and nourish the marrow. Majja (marrow) provides lubrication, strength, nourishes the semen, and fills the bones. Shukra (semen) provides courage, reproduction, pleasure, physical strength, and happiness. Feces support the body and help retain Vata (air) and Agni (digestive fire). Urine fills the bladder and moistens it. Sweat provides moisture and maintains the softness of the skin. The menstrual blood indicates fertility and is involved in conception. The fetus signifies pregnancy, while breast milk enhances the breasts and provides life to the infant.
