भवतश्चात्र- नैवातितीक्ष्णो न मृदुः शुक्लः श्लक्ष्णोऽथ पिच्छिलः । अविष्यन्दी शिवः शीघ्रः क्षारो ह्यष्टगुणः स्मृतः ॥१६॥
And in this regard, it is said: Not too sharp, not mild, white, smooth, and slimy, Not oozing, auspicious, quick, the alkali is said to have eight qualities.
english translation
अतिमार्दवश्वैत्यौष्ण्यतैक्ष्ण्यपैच्छिल्यसर्पिताः । सान्द्रताऽपक्वता हीनद्रव्यता दोष उच्यते ॥१७॥
Excessive softness, whiteness, heat, sharpness, and viscosity are said to be faults in terms of density, unripeness, and deficiency of ingredients.

तत्र क्षारसाध्यव्याधिव्याधितमुपवेश्य निवातातपे देशेऽसम्बाधेऽग्रोपहरणीयोक्तेन विधानेनोपसम्भृतसम्भारं, ततोऽस्य तमवकाशं निरीक्ष्यावघृष्यावलिख्य प्रच्छयित्वा , शलाकया क्षारं प्रतिसारयेत्, दत्त्वा वाक्शतमात्रमुपेक्षेत ॥१८॥
There, having seated the patient suffering from a disease curable by alkali in a place free from wind and heat, in an unobstructed place, with the requisites collected according to the method stated in the chapter on the foremost means of carrying, then having examined that place, having rubbed, scraped, and covered it, he should apply the alkali with a probe, or having applied it, he should wait for a hundred breaths.

तस्मिन्निपतिते व्याधौ कृष्णता दग्धलक्षणम् । तत्राम्लवर्गः शमनः सर्पिर्मधुकसंयुतः ॥१९॥
When the disease has subsided, the black color is a sign of burning. In that case, the group of sour substances along with ghee and liquorice is pacifying.

अथ चेत् स्थिरमूलत्वात् क्षारदग्धं न शीर्यते । इदमालेपनं तत्र समग्रमवचारयेत् ॥२०॥
If the alkali-burned area does not heal due to the stability of the roots, then a complete application of the paste should be performed there.
