In persons lacking self-control, the doshas get aggravated due to factors such as consuming incompatible food, indulgence in excessive sexual activities, sitting for long periods, traveling by rough vehicles, suppression of natural urges, etc. These vitiated doshas, individually or together, sometimes mixed with vitiated blood, spread as mentioned and reach the major blood vessels. Moving downwards, they reach the rectum, infect the folds of the anus, and generate fleshy growths, especially in individuals with weak digestion. Additionally, contact with cold water, or materials like grass, wood, stones, clay, or cloth, can lead to the growth of these swellings. These are known as hemorrhoids.

In this context, the large intestine is said to be connected to the rectum, which is approximately four and a half fingers in length. In this, three folds arise at intervals of one and a half fingers. These are called Pravahani (expulsive), Visarjani (evacuative), and Samvarani (retentive), each extending about four fingers in length, and all of them are spread transversely and raised by one finger in height.
