जिह्वाऽनिलेन स्फुटिता प्रसुप्ता भवेच्च शाकच्छदनप्रकाशा । पित्तेन पीता परिदह्यते च चिता सरक्तैरपि कण्टकैश्च । कफेन गुर्वी बहला चिता च मांसोद्गमैः शाल्मलिकण्टकाभैः ॥३७॥
When the tongue is disturbed by air, it becomes swollen and is covered with the appearance of leafy greens. If affected by bile, it burns and appears red due to the presence of thorns. If influenced by phlegm, it becomes heavy, with a thickness akin to that caused by the flesh of the Shalmali thorn.

जब जिह्वा वायु से प्रभावित होती है, तो यह सूज जाती है और पत्तेदार सब्जियों के समान दिखती है। यदि पित्त से प्रभावित होती है, तो यह जलती है और कांटों के कारण लाल दिखाई देती है। कफ के प्रभाव से यह भारी हो जाती है, जो शाल्मलि कांटे के मांस के समान मोटी होती है।
