There are two types of Prameha: congenital and that caused by injudicious diet. The first type, congenital (Sahaja), is due to a defect in the seeds of one’s parents, while the second type is caused by unwholesome food. The symptoms of the first type include emaciation, dryness, diminished appetite, excessive thirst, and restlessness; whereas the second type is characterized by obesity, voracity, a glossiness of the body, increased sleepiness, and a tendency to lie down or relax.
