न मे तेजःसहः कश्चिद् आख्यातुम् नास्ति मे क्षणः। मदम्शः पुरुषो +अयम् ते निःशेषम् कथयिष्यति ॥
(But since) nobody can bear my light and I have no time to teach you (the science,) this man who partakes of my nature will impart to you the whole of the science.
english translation
na me tejaHsahaH kazcid AkhyAtum nAsti me kSaNaH। madamzaH puruSo +ayam te niHzeSam kathayiSyati ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइत्य् उक्त्वान्तर्दधे देवः समादिश्याम्शम् आत्मनः। स पुमान् मयम् आहेदम् प्रणतम् प्राञ्जलिस्थितम् ॥
The God Sun, having thus spoken to, and ordered the man born from himself (to teach Maya), disappeared. That man spoke to Maya, who stood bending and folding his hands close to his forehead, in the following manner -

ity uktvAntardadhe devaH samAdizyAmzam AtmanaH। sa pumAn mayam Ahedam praNatam prAJjalisthitam ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशृणुष्वैकमनाः पूर्वम् यद् उक्तम् ज्ञानम् उत्तमम् ।युगे युगे महर्षीणाम् स्वयम् एव विवस्वता ॥
- (O Maya), hear attentively the excellent knowledge (of the science of Astronomy) which the Sun himself formerly taught to the great saints in each of the Yugas.
english translation
zRNuSvaikamanAH pUrvam yad uktam jJAnam uttamam ।yuge yuge maharSINAm svayam eva vivasvatA ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशास्त्रम् आद्यम् तद् एवेदम् यत् पूर्वम् प्राह भास्करः। युगानाम् परिवर्तेन कालभेदो अत्र केवलः॥
I teach you the same ancient science, which the Sun himself formerly taught. (But) the difference (between the present and the ancient works) is caused only by time, on account of the revolution of the Yugas.
english translation
zAstram Adyam tad evedam yat pUrvam prAha bhAskaraH। yugAnAm parivartena kAlabhedo atra kevalaH॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptलोकानाम् अन्तकृत् कालः कालो अन्यः कलनात्मकः। स द्विधा स्थूलसूक्ष्मत्वान् मूर्तश् चामूर्त उच्यते ॥
Time is of two kinds: the first (is continuous and endless which) destroys all animate and inanimate things (which is also the cause of creation and preservation), the second is that which can be known. This (latter kind of time) is also of two kinds; the one is called Múrta (measurable) and the other is Amúrta (immeasurable, by reason of bulkiness and smallness respectively).

lokAnAm antakRt kAlaH kAlo anyaH kalanAtmakaH। sa dvidhA sthUlasUkSmatvAn mUrtaz cAmUrta ucyate ॥
