श्रावस्तस्तत्सुतो येन श्रावस्ती निर्ममे पुरी । बृहदश्वस्तु श्रावस्तिस्ततः कुवलयाश्वकः ।। ९-६-२१ ।।

sanskrit

The son of Yuvanāśva was Śrāvasta, who constructed a township known as Śrāvastī Purī. The son of Śrāvasta was Bṛhadaśva, and his son was Kuvalayāśva. In this way the dynasty increased. ।। 9-6-21 ।।

english translation

युवनाश्व का पुत्र श्रावस्त था जिसने श्रावस्ती नामक पुरी का निर्माण कराया। श्रावस्त का पुत्र बृहदश्व था और उसका पुत्र कुवलयाश्व था। इस तरह यह वंश बढ़ता रहा। ।। ९-६-२१ ।।

यः प्रियार्थमुतङ्कस्य धुन्धुनामासुरं बली । सुतानामेकविंशत्या सहस्रैरहनद्वृतः ।। ९-६-२२ ।।

sanskrit

To satisfy the sage Utaṅka, the greatly powerful Kuvalayāśva killed a demon named Dhundhu. He did this with the assistance of his twenty-one thousand sons. ।। 9-6-22 ।।

english translation

उतंक ऋषि को संतुष्ट करने के लिए परम शक्तिशाली कुवलयाश्व ने धुन्धु नामक असुर का वध किया। उसने अपने इक्कीस हजार पुत्रों की सहायता से ऐसा किया। ।। ९-६-२२ ।।

धुन्धुमार इति ख्यातस्तत्सुतास्ते च जज्वलुः । धुन्धोर्मुखाग्निना सर्वे त्रय एवावशेषिताः ।। ९-६-२३ ।।

sanskrit

O Mahārāja Parīkṣit, for this reason Kuvalayāśva is celebrated as Dhundhumāra [“the killer of Dhundhu”]. All but three of his sons, however, were burned to ashes by the fire emanating from Dhundhu’s mouth. The remaining sons were ।। 9-6-23 ।।

english translation

हे महाराज परीक्षित, इस कारण से कुवलयाश्व धुन्धुमार कहलाता है। किन्तु उसके तीन पुत्रों को छोडक़र शेष सभी धुन्धु के मुख से निकलने वाली अग्नि से जलकर राख हो गये। बचे हुए पुत्रों के नाम हैं— ।। ९-६-२३ ।।

दृढाश्वः कपिलाश्वश्च भद्राश्व इति भारत । दृढाश्वपुत्रो हर्यश्वो निकुम्भस्तत्सुतः स्मृतः ।। ९-६-२४ ।।

Dṛḍhāśva, Kapilāśva and Bhadrāśva. From Dṛḍhāśva came a son named Haryaśva, whose son is celebrated as Nikumbha. ।। 9-6-24 ।।

english translation

दृढ़ाश्व, कपिलाश्व तथा भद्राश्व। दृढ़ाश्व के हर्यश्व नामक पुत्र हुआ जिसका पुत्र निकुम्भ नाम से विख्यात है। ।। ९-६-२४ ।।

बर्हणाश्वो निकुम्भस्य कृशाश्वोऽथास्य सेनजित् । युवनाश्वोऽभवत्तस्य सोऽनपत्यो वनं गतः ।। ९-६-२५ ।।

sanskrit

The son of Nikumbha was Bahulāśva, the son of Bahulāśva was Kṛśāśva, the son of Kṛśāśva was Senajit, and the son of Senajit was Yuvanāśva. Yuvanāśva had no sons, and thus he retired from family life and went to the forest. ।। 9-6-25 ।।

english translation

निकुम्भ का पुत्र बहुलाश्व था, बहुलाश्व का पुत्र कृशाश्व और कृशाश्व का पुत्र सेनजित हुआ। सेनजित का पुत्र युवनाश्व था। युवनाश्व के कोई सन्तान नहीं थी इसलिए वह गृहस्थ जीवन त्यागकर जंगल चला गया। ।। ९-६-२५ ।।
