Srimad Bhagavatam
स इत्थं भक्तियोगेन तपोयुक्तेन पार्थिवः । स्वधर्मेण हरिं प्रीणन् सङ्गान् सर्वान् शनैर्जहौ ॥ ९-४-२६ ॥
The king of this planet, Mahārāja Ambarīṣa, thus performed devotional service to the Lord and in this endeavor practiced severe austerity. Always satisfying the Supreme Personality of Godhead by his constitutional activities, he gradually gave up all material desires. ॥ 9-4-26 ॥
english translation
इस तरह इस लोक के राजा महाराज अम्बरीष ने भगवान् की भक्ति की और इस प्रयास में उन्होंने कठिन तपस्या की। उन्होंने अपने वैधानिक कार्यकलापों से भगवान् को सदैव प्रसन्न करते हुए धीरे धीरे सारी भौतिक इच्छाओं का परित्याग कर दिया। ॥ ९-४-२६ ॥
