चोद्यमाना सुरैरेवं मत्वा वितथमात्मजम् । व्यसृजन्मरुतोऽबिभ्रन् दत्तोऽयं वितथेऽन्वये ।। ९-२०-३९ ।।

sanskrit

Although encouraged by the demigods to maintain the child, Mamatā considered him useless because of his illicit birth, and therefore she left him. Consequently, the demigods known as the Maruts maintained the child, and when Mahārāja Bharata was disappointed for want of a child, this child was given to him as his son. ।। 9-20-39 ।।

english translation

यद्यपि देवताओं ने बालक को पालने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया था, किन्तु ममता ने अवैध जन्म के कारण उस बालक को व्यर्थ समझ कर उसे छोड़ दिया। फलस्वरूप, मरुत्गण देवताओं ने बालक का पालन किया और जब महाराज भरत सन्तान के अभाव से निराश हो गए तो उन्हें यही बालक पुत्र-रूप में भेंट किया गया। ।। ९-२०-३९ ।।
