दृष्टं श्रुतमसद्बुद्ध्वा नानुध्यायेन्न संविशेत् । संसृतिं चात्मनाशं च तत्र विद्वान् स आत्मदृक् ।। ९-१९-२० ।।

sanskrit

One who knows that material happiness, whether good or bad, in this life or in the next, on this planet or on the heavenly planets, is temporary and useless, and that an intelligent person should not try to enjoy or even think of such things, is the knower of the self. Such a self-realized person knows quite well that material happiness is the very cause of continued material existence and forgetfulness of one’s own constitutional position. ।। 9-19-20 ।।

english translation

जो यह जानता है कि भौतिक सुख चाहे अच्छा हो या बुरा, इस जीवन में हो या अगले जीवन में, इस लोक में हो या स्वर्गलोक में हो, क्षणिक तथा व्यर्थ है और यह जानता है कि बुद्धिमान पुरुष को ऐसी वस्तुओं को भोगने या सोचने का प्रयत्न नहीं करना चाहिए। वह मनुष्य आत्मज्ञानी है। ऐसा स्वरूपसिद्ध व्यक्ति भलीभाँति जानता है कि भौतिक सुख बारम्बार जन्म एवं अपनी स्वाभाविक स्थिति के विस्मरण का एकमात्र कारण है। ।। ९-१९-२० ।।
