नोचेत्प्रमत्तमसदिन्द्रियवाजिसूता नीत्वोत्पथं विषयदस्युषु निक्षिपन्ति, ते दस्यवः सहयसूतममुं तमोऽन्धे संसारकूप उरुमृत्युभये क्षिपन्ति ।। ७-१५-४६ ।।

Otherwise, if one does not take shelter of Acyuta and Baladeva, then the senses, acting as the horses, and the intelligence, acting as the driver, both being prone to material contamination, inattentively bring the body, which acts as the chariot, to the path of sense gratification. When one is thus attracted again by the rogues of viṣaya — eating, sleeping and mating — the horses and chariot driver are thrown into the blinding dark well of material existence, and one is again put into a dangerous and extremely fearful situation of repeated birth and death. ।। 7-15-46 ।।

english translation

अन्यथा यदि मनुष्य अच्युत कृष्ण तथा बलदेव की शरण ग्रहण नहीं कर लेता तो इन्द्रियाँ रूपी घोड़े तथा बुद्धि रूपी सारथी दोनों ही भौतिक कल्मष के प्रति उन्मुख होने से अनजाने ही शरीर रूपी रथ को इन्द्रियतृप्ति के मार्ग पर ला खड़ा करते हैं। इस प्रकार जब विषय के धूर्तों— खाना, सोना तथा मैथुन—के द्वारा वह आकृष्ट होता है, तो घोड़े तथा सारथी संसार के अन्धकूप में गिरा दिए जाते हैं और मनुष्य पुन: जन्म-मृत्यु की घातक तथा अत्यन्त भयावह स्थिति में आ पड़ता है। ।। ७-१५-४६ ।।
