सत्यं दया तपः शौचं तितिक्षेक्षा शमो दमः । अहिंसा ब्रह्मचर्यं च त्यागः स्वाध्याय आर्जवम् ॥ ७-११-८ ॥
These are the general principles to be followed by all human beings: truthfulness, mercy, austerity (observing fasts on certain days of the month), bathing twice a day, tolerance, discrimination between right and wrong, control of the mind, control of the senses, nonviolence, celibacy, charity, reading of scripture, simplicity, ॥ 7-11-8 ॥

सभी मनुष्यों को जिन सामान्य नियम का पालन करना होता है, ये हैं—सत्य, दया, तपस्या, (महीने में कुछ दिन उपवास करना), दिन में दो बार स्नान, सहनशीलता, अच्छे बुरे का विवेक, मन का संयम, इन्द्रिय संयम, अहिंसा, ब्रह्मचर्य, दान, शास्त्रों का अध्ययन, सादगी, ॥ ७-११-८ ॥
