कृत्तिकादीनि नक्षत्राणीन्दोः पत्न्यस्तु भारत । दक्षशापात्सोऽनपत्यस्तासु यक्ष्मग्रहार्दितः ॥ ६-६-२३ ॥

sanskrit

O Mahārāja Parīkṣit, best of the Bhāratas, the constellations named Kṛttikā were all wives of the moon-god. However, because Prajāpati Dakṣa had cursed him to suffer from a disease causing gradual destruction, the moon-god could not beget children in any of his wives. ॥ 6-6-23 ॥

english translation

हे भारतश्रेष्ठ महाराज परीक्षित! कृत्तिका नामक राशियाँ चन्द्रदेव की पत्नियाँ थीं। चूँकि प्रजापति दक्ष ने चन्द्रदेव को शाप दिया था कि उसे क्षय रोग हो जाये, अत: किसी भी पत्नी से कोई सन्तान नहीं हुई। ॥ ६-६-२३ ॥
