विलोक्यैकान्तभूतानि भूतान्यादौ प्रजापतिः । स्त्रियं चक्रे स्वदेहार्धं यया पुंसां मतिर्हृता ।। ६-१८-३० ।।

sanskrit

In the beginning of creation, Lord Brahmā, the father of the living entities of the universe, saw that all the living entities were unattached. To increase population, he then created woman from the better half of man’s body, for woman’s behavior carries away a man’s mind. ।। 6-18-30 ।।

english translation

सृष्टि के प्रारम्भ में ब्रह्माण्ड की जीवात्माओं के पिता ब्रह्माजी ने देखा कि समस्त जीवात्मा विरक्त हो रहे हैं। अत: उन्होंने जनसंख्या बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से पुरुष के आधे अंग से स्त्री की रचना की क्योंकि स्त्री का आचरण मनुष्य के मन को हर लेता है। ।। ६-१८-३० ।।
