श्रीशुक उवाच अथ देवऋषी राजन् सम्परेतं नृपात्मजम् । दर्शयित्वेति होवाच ज्ञातीनामनुशोचताम् ।। ६-१६-१ ।।

sanskrit

Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: My dear King Parīkṣit, by his mystic power the great sage Nārada brought the dead son into the vision of all the lamenting relatives and then spoke as follows. ।। 6-16-1 ।।

english translation

श्री शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा—हे राजा परीक्षित! नारद ऋषि ने अपनी योगशक्ति से शोकाकुल स्वजनों के समक्ष उस पुत्र को ला दिया और फिर वे इस प्रकार बोले। ।। ६-१६-१ ।।

नारद उवाच जीवात्मन् पश्य भद्रं ते मातरं पितरं च ते । सुहृदो बान्धवास्तप्ताः शुचा त्वत्कृतया भृशम् ।। ६-१६-२ ।।

sanskrit

Śrī Nārada Muni said: O living entity, all good fortune unto you. Just see your father and mother. All your friends and relatives are overwhelmed with grief because of your passing away. ।। 6-16-2 ।।

english translation

श्री नारद मुनि ने कहा—हे जीवात्मा! तुम्हारा कल्याण हो। जरा अपने माता-पिता को तो देखो। तुम्हारे चले जाने (मरने) से तुम्हारे समस्त मित्र तथा सम्बन्धी शोकाकुल हैं। ‌।। ६-१६-२ ।।

कलेवरं स्वमाविश्य शेषमायुः सुहृद्वृतः । भुङ्क्ष्व भोगान् पितृप्रत्तानधितिष्ठ नृपासनम् ।। ६-१६-३ ।।

sanskrit

Because you died untimely, the balance of your lifetime still remains. Therefore you may reenter your body and enjoy the remainder of your life, surrounded by your friends and relatives. Accept the royal throne and all the opulences given by your father. ।। 6-16-3 ।।

english translation

तुम असमय ही मरे थे इसलिए तुम्हारी आयु अब भी शेष है। अत: तुम अपने शरीर में पुन: प्रवेश करके अपने मित्रों तथा स्वजनों की संगति में शेष जीवन का भोग करो। अपने पिता द्वारा प्रदत्त यह समस्त ऐश्वर्य तथा राजसिंहासन स्वीकार करो। ।। ६-१६-३ ।।

जीव उवाच कस्मिन् जन्मन्यमी मह्यं पितरो मातरोऽभवन् । कर्मभिर्भ्राम्यमाणस्य देवतिर्यङ्नृयोनिषु ।। ६-१६-४ ।।

By the mystic power of Nārada Muni, the living entity reentered his dead body for a short time and spoke in reply to Nārada Muni’s request. He said: According to the results of my fruitive activities, I, the living being, transmigrate from one body to another, sometimes going to the species of the demigods, sometimes to the species of lower animals, sometimes among the vegetables, and sometimes to the human species. Therefore, in which birth were these my mother and father? No one is actually my mother and father. How can I accept these two people as my parents? ।। 6-16-4 ।।

english translation

नारद मुनि की योगशक्ति से जीवात्मा थोड़े समय के लिए मृत शरीर में पुन: प्रविष्ट हुआ और नारद मुनि के अनुरोध पर इस प्रकार बोला, “मैं (जीव) अपने कर्म-फलों के अनुसार एक शरीर से दूसरे शरीर में देहान्तर करता रहता हूँ; इस प्रकार कभी देवताओं की योनि में रहता हूँ तो कभी निम्न पशुओं, अथवा वनस्पतियों में और कभी मनुष्य योनि में रहता हूँ। अत: ये किस जन्म में मेरे माता तथा पिता थे? वास्तव में न तो कोई मेरी माता है और न कोई पिता। तो मैं इन दोनों व्यक्तियों को अपने माता-पिता के रूप में कैसे स्वीकार कर सकता हूँ? ।। ६-१६-४ ।।

बन्धुज्ञात्यरिमध्यस्थमित्रोदासीनविद्विषः । सर्व एव हि सर्वेषां भवन्ति क्रमशो मिथः ।। ६-१६-५ ।।

sanskrit

In this material world, which advances like a river that carries away the living entity, all people become friends, relatives and enemies in due course of time. They also act neutrally, they mediate, they despise one another, and they act in many other relationships. Nonetheless, despite these various transactions, no one is permanently related. ।। 6-16-5 ।।

english translation

यह भौतिक जगत नदी की भाँति प्रवहमान है, जो अपने जीवात्मा को लिये जा रही है और जिसमें सभी लोग समयानुसार मित्र, कुटुम्बी तथा शत्रु बनते रहते हैं। वे उदासीन, मध्यस्थ, द्वेषी तथा कई अन्य प्रकारों से कार्य करते हैं। इतने पर भी कोई किसी से स्थायी रूप से सम्बद्ध नहीं है। ।। ६-१६-५ ।।
