तयेन्द्रः स्मासहत्तापं निर्वृतिर्नामुमाविशत् । ह्रीमन्तं वाच्यतां प्राप्तं सुखयन्त्यपि नो गुणाः ।। ६-१३-११ ।।

sanskrit

Following the advice of the demigods, Indra killed Vṛtrāsura, and he suffered because of this sinful killing. Although the other demigods were happy, he could not derive happiness from the killing of Vṛtrāsura. Indra’s other good qualities, such as tolerance and opulence, could not help him in his grief. ।। 6-13-11 ।।

english translation

देवताओं की सलाह से इन्द्र ने वृत्रासुर का वध कर दिया और इस पापपूर्ण हत्या के कारण उसे कष्ट उठाना पड़ा। यद्यपि अन्य देवतागण प्रसन्न थे, किन्तु वृत्रासुर की हत्या से उसे तनिक भी प्रसन्नता नहीं हुई। इन्द्र के इस क्लेश में अन्य उत्तम गुण, यथा धैर्य तथा ऐश्वर्य, उसके सहायक नहीं बन सके। ।। ६-१३-११ ।।

tayendraH smAsahattApaM nirvRtirnAmumAvizat | hrImantaM vAcyatAM prAptaM sukhayantyapi no guNAH || 6-13-11 ||
