किं वा अरे आचरितं तपस्तपस्विन्यानया यदियमवनिः सविनयकृष्णसारतनयतनुतरसुभगशिवतमाखरखुरपदपङ्क्तिभिर्द्रविणविधुरातुरस्य कृपणस्य मम द्रविणपदवीं सूचयन्त्यात्मानं च सर्वतः कृतकौतुकं द्विजानां स्वर्गापवर्गकामानां देवयजनं करोति ।। ५-८-२३ ।।

After speaking like a madman in this way, Mahārāja Bharata got up and went outside. Seeing the footprints of the deer on the ground, he praised the footprints out of love, saying: O unfortunate Bharata, your austerities and penances are very insignificant compared to the penance and austerity undergone by this earth planet. Due to the earth’s severe penances, the footprints of this deer, which are small, beautiful, most auspicious and soft, are imprinted on the surface of this fortunate planet. This series of footprints show a person like me, who am bereaved due to loss of the deer, how the animal has passed through the forest and how I can regain my lost wealth. By these footprints, this land has become a proper place for brāhmaṇas who desire heavenly planets or liberation to execute sacrifices to the demigods. ।। 5-8-23 ।।

इस प्रकार एक पागल की भाँति बोलते हुए महाराज भरत उठे और बाहर निकल गए। धरती पर मृग के पदचिह्नों को देखकर उनकी प्रशंसा में अत्यन्त प्रेम से कहा, “अरे अभागे भरत! इस पृथ्वी के तप की तुलना में तुम्हारे तप तुच्छ हैं, क्योंकि पृथ्वी की कठोर तपस्या से ही उस पर इस मृग के छोटे-छोटे, सुन्दर अत्यन्त कल्याणकारी तथा मुलायम पदचिह्न बने हुए हैं। पदचिह्नों की यह श्रेणी मृग-विछोह से दुखी मुझ जैसे व्यक्ति को दिखा रही है कि वह पशु इस जंगल से होकर किस प्रकार आगे गया है और मैं उस खोई हुई सम्पत्ति को किस तरह पुन: प्राप्त कर सकता हूँ। इन पदचिह्नों के कारण यह भूमि स्वर्ग या मुक्ति की इच्छा से देवताओं के हेतु यज्ञ करने वाले ब्राह्मणों के लिए उत्तम स्थान बन गई है। ।। ५-८-२३ ।।
