आसादितहविषि बर्हिषि दूषिते मयोपालब्धो भीतभीतः सपद्युपरतरास ऋषिकुमारवदवहितकरणकलाप आस्ते ॥ ५-८-२२ ॥

When I placed all the sacrificial ingredients on the kuśa grass, the deer, when playing, would touch the grass with its teeth and thus pollute it. When I chastised the deer by pushing it away, it would immediately become fearful and sit down motionless, exactly like the son of a saintly person. Thus it would stop its play. ॥ 5-8-22 ॥

english translation

जब मैं यज्ञ की समस्त सामग्री को कुश पर रखता तो यह मृग खेल-खेल में कुश को अपने दाँतों से छूकर अपवित्र कर देता। जब मैं मृग को दूर हटा कर डाँटता-डपटता तो वह तुरन्त डर जाता और बिना हिले डुले बैठ जाता मानो ऋषि का पुत्र हो। तब वह अपना खेल (क्रीड़ा) बन्द कर देता। ॥ ५-८-२२ ॥
