Srimad Bhagavatam
अर्थेन्द्रियारामसगोष्ठ्यतृष्णया तत्सम्मतानामपरिग्रहेण च । विविक्तरुच्या परितोष आत्मन् विना हरेर्गुणपीयूषपानात् ॥ ४-२२-२३ ॥
One has to make progress in spiritual life by not associating with persons who are simply interested in sense gratification and making money. Not only such persons, but one who associates with such persons should be avoided. One should mold his life in such a way that he cannot live in peace without drinking the nectar of the glorification of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari. One can be thus elevated by being disgusted with the taste for sense enjoyment. ॥ 4-22-23 ॥
english translation
ऐसे लोगों की संगति न करके, जो केवल इन्द्रियतृप्ति एवं धनोपार्जन के फेर में रहते हैं, मनुष्य को आध्यात्मिक जीवन में उन्नति करनी चाहिए। उसे न केवल ऐसे लोगों से दूर रहना चाहिए, वरन् जो उनका संग करते हैं उनसे भी बचना चाहिए। मनुष्य को अपना जीवन इस प्रकार ढालना चाहिए कि जिसमें उसे भगवान् हरि की महिमा का अमृत पान किये बिना चैन न मिले। इस प्रकार इन्द्रियभोग से विरक्ति उत्पन्न होने पर मनुष्य उन्नति कर सकता है। ॥ ४-२२-२३ ॥
