Srimad Bhagavatam
प्रजापतिर्धर्मपतिरेकदा नियमान् यमान् । भद्रं प्रजानामन्विच्छन्नातिष्ठत्स्वार्थकाम्यया ॥ २-९-३९ ॥
Thus once upon a time the forefather of living entities and the father of religiousness, Lord Brahmā, situated himself in acts of regulative principles, desiring self-interest for the welfare of all living entities. ॥ 2-9-39 ॥

एक बार जीवों के पूर्वज तथा धर्म के पिता ब्रह्माजी ने समस्त जीवात्माओं के कल्याण में ही अपना हित समझते हुए विधिपूर्वक यम-नियमों को धारण किया। ॥ २-९-३९ ॥
