यावान् कल्पो विकल्पो वा यथा कालोऽनुमीयते । भूतभव्यभवच्छब्द आयुर्मानं च यत्सतः ।। २-८-१२ ।।

कृपा करके सृष्टि तथा प्रलय के मध्य की अवधि (कल्प) तथा अन्य गौण सृष्टियों (विकल्प) एवं भूत, वर्तमान तथा भविष्य शब्द से सूचित होने वाले काल के विषय में भी मुझे बताएँ। साथ ही, ब्रह्माण्ड के विभिन्न लोकों के विभिन्न जीवों यथा देवों, मनुष्यों इत्यादि की आयु की अवधि के विषय में भी मुझे बताएँ। ।। २-८-१२ ।।
