Srimad Bhagavatam
अहो कष्टमहोऽन्याय्यं यद्यूयं धर्मनन्दनाः । जीवितुं नार्हथ क्लिष्टं विप्रधर्माच्युताश्रयाः ॥ १-९-१२ ॥
Bhīṣmadeva said: Oh, what terrible sufferings and what terrible injustices you good souls suffer for being the sons of religion personified. You did not deserve to remain alive under those tribulations, yet you were protected by the brāhmaṇas, God and religion. ॥ 1-9-12 ॥
english translation
भीष्मदेव ने कहा : ओह, तुम लोगों ने, साक्षात् धर्म के पुत्र होते हुए भी, कितनी यातनाएँ तथा कितना अन्याय सहा है। उन कष्टों के अन्तर्गत तुम सबको जीवित रहने की आशा न थी, फिर भी ब्राह्मणों, ईश्वर तथा धर्म ने तुम्हारी रक्षा की है। ॥ १-९-१२ ॥
