दृष्ट्वास्त्रतेजस्तु तयोस्त्रींल्लोकान् प्रदहन् महत् । दह्यमानाः प्रजाः सर्वाः सांवर्तकममंसत ॥ १-७-३१ ॥
All the population of the three worlds was scorched by the combined heat of the weapons. Everyone was reminded of the sāṁvartaka fire which takes place at the time of annihilation. ॥ 1-7-31 ॥

उन अस्त्रों की सम्मिलित अग्नि से तीनों लोकों के सारे लोग जल-भुन गये। सभी लोगों को उस सांवर्तक अग्नि का स्मरण हो आया, जो प्रलय के समय लगती है। ॥ १-७-३१ ॥

प्रजोपद्रवमालक्ष्य लोकव्यतिकरं च तम् । मतं च वासुदेवस्य सञ्जहारार्जुनो द्वयम् ॥ १-७-३२ ॥
Thus seeing the disturbance of the general populace and the imminent destruction of the planets, Arjuna at once retracted both brahmāstra weapons, as Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa desired. ॥ 1-7-32 ॥

इस प्रकार जन सामान्य में फैली हड़बड़ी एवं ग्रहों के आसन्न विनाश को देखकर, अर्जुन ने भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण की इच्छानुसार तुरन्त ही दोनों अस्त्रों का निवारण कर दिया। ॥ १-७-३२ ॥

तत आसाद्य तरसा दारुणं गौतमीसुतम् । बबन्धामर्षताम्राक्षः पशुं रशनया यथा ॥ १-७-३३ ॥
Arjuna, his eyes blazing in anger like two red balls of copper, dexterously arrested the son of Gautamī and bound him with ropes like an animal. ॥ 1-7-33 ॥

ताँबे के दो लाल तप्त गोलों के समान क्रोध से प्रज्वलित आँखें किये, अर्जुन ने अत्यन्त दक्षतापूर्वक से गौतमी के पुत्र को बन्दी बना लिया और उसे रस्सियों से पशु की तरह बाँध लिया। ॥ १-७-३३ ॥

शिबिराय निनीषन्तं दाम्ना बद्ध्वा रिपुं बलात् । प्राहार्जुनं प्रकुपितो भगवानम्बुजेक्षणः ॥ १-७-३४ ॥
After binding Aśvatthāmā, Arjuna wanted to take him to the military camp. The Personality of Godhead Śrī Kṛṣṇa, looking on with His lotus eyes, spoke to Arjuna in an angry mood. ॥ 1-7-34 ॥

अश्वत्थामा को बाँध लेने के बाद, अर्जुन उसे सेना के पड़ाव की ओर ले जाना चाह रहा था कि अपने कमलनेत्रों से देखते हुए भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण ने क्रुद्ध अर्जुन से इस प्रकार कहा। ॥ १-७-३४ ॥

मैनं पार्थार्हसि त्रातुं ब्रह्मबन्धुमिमं जहि । योऽसावनागसः सुप्तानवधीन्निशि बालकान् ॥ १-७-३५ ॥
Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: O Arjuna, you should not show mercy by releasing this relative of a brāhmaṇa [brahma-bandhu], for he has killed innocent boys in their sleep. ॥ 1-7-35 ॥

भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण ने कहा : हे अर्जुन, इस ब्रह्म-बन्धु को छोडक़र तुम दया मत दिखलाओ, क्योंकि इसने सोते हुए निर्दोष बालकों का वध किया है। ॥ १-७-३५ ॥
