पञ्चदशं वामनकं कृत्वागादध्वरं बलेः । पदत्रयं याचमानः प्रत्यादित्सुस्त्रिविष्टपम् ॥ १-३-१९ ॥
Fifteenth He assumed the form of Vâmana [the dwarf brâhmana] who went to the arena of sacrifice of Mahârâja Bali to beg for only three steps of land, concealing His wish to regain the three worlds. ॥ 1-3-19 ॥
english translation
पन्द्रहवें अवतार में भगवान् ने बौने ब्राह्मण (वामन) का रूप धारण किया और वे महाराज बलि द्वारा आयोजित यज्ञ में पधारे। यद्यपि वे हृदय से तीनों लोकों का राज्य प्राप्त करना चाह रहे थे, किन्तु उन्होंने केवल तीन पग भूमि दान में माँगी। ॥ १-३-१९ ॥
