रजस्तमःप्रकृतयः समशीलाभजन्तिवै । पितृभूतप्रजेशादीन् श्रियैश्वर्यप्रजेप्सवः ।। १-२-२७ ।।

sanskrit

Those who are in the modes of passion and ignorance worship those in the same category — namely the forefathers, other living beings and the demigods who are in charge of cosmic activities — for they are urged by a desire to be materially benefited with women, wealth, power and progeny. ।। 1-2-27 ।।

english translation

जो लोग रजोगुणी तथा तमोगुणी हैं वे पितरों, अन्य जीवों तथा उन देवताओं की पूजा करते हैं, जो सृष्टि सम्बन्धी कार्यकलापों के प्रभारी हैं, क्योंकि वे स्त्री, धन, शक्ति तथा सन्तान का लाभ उठाने की इच्छा से प्रेरित होते हैं। ।। १-२-२७ ।।
