ध्रुवं ततो मे कृतदेवहेलनाद्दुरत्ययं व्यसनं नातिदीर्घात् । तदस्तु कामं त्वघनिष्कृताय मे यथा न कुर्यां पुनरेवमद्धा ॥ १-१९-२ ॥
[King Parīkṣit thought:] Due to my neglecting the injunctions of the Supreme Lord I must certainly expect some difficulty to overcome me in the near future. I now desire without reservation that the calamity come now, for in this way I may be freed of the sinful action and not commit such an offense again. ॥ 1-19-2 ॥

[राजा परीक्षित ने सोचा :] भगवान् के आदेशों की अवहेलना करने से मुझे आशंका है कि निश्चित रूप से निकट भविष्य में मेरे ऊपर कोई संकट आनेवाला है। अब मैं बिना हिचक के कामना करता हूँ कि वह संकट अभी आ जाय, क्योंकि इस तरह मैं पापपूर्ण कर्म से मुक्त हो जाऊँगा और फिर ऐसा अपराध नहीं करूँगा। ॥ १-१९-२ ॥
