श्रीकृष्ण उवाच ॥ भगवञ्छ्रोतुमिच्छामि प्रतिष्ठाविधिमुत्तमम् ॥ लिंगस्यापि च बेरस्य शिवेन विहितं यथा ॥ १ ॥
Sri Kṛṣṇa said:— O lord, I wish to hear the rules governing the installation of the phallic and the embodied image of Śiva.
english translation
zrIkRSNa uvAca ॥ bhagavaJchrotumicchAmi pratiSThAvidhimuttamam ॥ liMgasyApi ca berasya zivena vihitaM yathA ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउपमन्युरुवाच अनात्मप्रतिकूले तु दिवसे शुक्लपक्षके ॥ शिवशास्त्रोक्तमार्गेण कुर्याल्लिंगं प्रमाणवत् ॥ २ ॥
Upamanyu said:— On a day in the bright half of the month not unfavourable to him, the devotee shall make the Liṅga of the proper size in the manner prescribed in the Śaivite scriptures.
english translation
upamanyuruvAca anAtmapratikUle tu divase zuklapakSake ॥ zivazAstroktamArgeNa kuryAlliMgaM pramANavat ॥ 2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस्वीकृत्याथ शुभस्थानं भूपरीक्षां विधाय च ॥ दशोपचारान्कुर्वीत लक्षणोद्धारपूर्वकान् ॥ ३ ॥
Selecting an auspicious spot he shall test the ground. He shall perform the ten forms of service.
english translation
svIkRtyAtha zubhasthAnaM bhUparIkSAM vidhAya ca ॥ dazopacArAnkurvIta lakSaNoddhArapUrvakAn ॥ 3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतेषां दशोपचाराणां पूर्वं पूज्य १ विनायकम् ॥ स्थानशुद्ध्यादिकं कृत्वालिंगं स्नानालयं नयेत् ॥ ४ ॥
But before the actual performance of this service Vināyaka shall be worshipped. After purifying the spot and other rites he shall take the Liṅga to the ablution chamber.
english translation
teSAM dazopacArANAM pUrvaM pUjya 1 vinAyakam ॥ sthAnazuddhyAdikaM kRtvAliMgaM snAnAlayaM nayet ॥ 4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशलाकया कांचनया २ कुंकुमादिरसाक्तया ॥ लक्षितं लक्षणं शिल्पशास्त्रेण विलिखेत्ततः ॥ ५ ॥
With a gold rod dipped into the solution of saffron he shall draw the characteristic signs in the prescribed manner.

zalAkayA kAMcanayA 2 kuMkumAdirasAktayA ॥ lakSitaM lakSaNaM zilpazAstreNa vilikhettataH ॥ 5 ॥
