कृष्ण उवाच ॥ भगवञ्छ्रोतुमिच्छामि शिवाश्रमनिषेविणाम् ॥ शिवशास्त्रोदितं कर्म नित्यनैमित्तिकं तथा ॥ १ ॥

Śrī Kṛṣṇa said:— O holy lord, I wish to hear the compulsory and optional rites of those who follow Śaivite conduct of life, as mentioned in Śaivite scriptures.

kRSNa uvAca ॥ bhagavaJchrotumicchAmi zivAzramaniSeviNAm ॥ zivazAstroditaM karma nityanaimittikaM tathA ॥ 1 ॥

उपमन्युरुवाच ॥ प्रातरुत्थाय शयनाद्ध्यात्वा देवं सहाम्बया ॥ विचार्य कार्यं निर्गच्छेद्गृहादभ्युदिते ऽरुणे ॥ २ ॥

Upamanyu said:— He shall rise early in the morning and meditate on the lord and the goddess For performing necessaries he shall go out of the house when the sun has risen.

english translation

upamanyuruvAca ॥ prAtarutthAya zayanAddhyAtvA devaM sahAmbayA ॥ vicArya kAryaM nirgacchedgRhAdabhyudite 'ruNe ॥ 2 ॥

अबाधे विजने देशे कुर्यादावश्यकं ततः ॥ कृत्वा शौचं विधानेन दंतधावनमाचरेत् ॥ ३ ॥

In a secluded spot where there is no hindrance he shall evacuate his bowels. After washing in accordance with the rules he shall clean the teeth.

abAdhe vijane deze kuryAdAvazyakaM tataH ॥ kRtvA zaucaM vidhAnena daMtadhAvanamAcaret ॥ 3 ॥

अलाभे दंतकाष्ठानामष्टम्यादिदिनेषु च ॥ अपां द्वादशगण्डूषैः कुर्यादास्यविशोधनम् ॥ ४ ॥

On the eighth and other days whenever tooth-brush twig is not available he shall gargle twelve times and clean the teeth.

alAbhe daMtakASThAnAmaSTamyAdidineSu ca ॥ apAM dvAdazagaNDUSaiH kuryAdAsyavizodhanam ॥ 4 ॥

आचम्य विधिवत्पश्चाद्वारुणं स्नानमाचरेत् ॥ नद्यां वा देवखाते वा ह्रदे वाथ गृहे ऽपि वा ॥ ५ ॥

After performing Ācamana he shall take bath either in a river or in a pond or in an eddy or in the house itself.

english translation

Acamya vidhivatpazcAdvAruNaM snAnamAcaret ॥ nadyAM vA devakhAte vA hrade vAtha gRhe 'pi vA ॥ 5 ॥
