Shiva Purana
ततस्तु भस्मना देवं ध्यायन्मनसि देशिकः ॥ समालभेत पाणिभ्यां शिशुं शिवमुदीरयेत् ॥ ५९ ॥
Meditating on the lord he shall take Bhasma in both the hands and smear it over the body of the disciple repeating Śiva’s names.
english translation
tatastu bhasmanA devaM dhyAyanmanasi dezikaH ॥ samAlabheta pANibhyAM zizuM zivamudIrayet ॥ 59 ॥
