Shiva Purana
प्रथमं कर्मयज्ञेन बहिः सम्पूज्य मां प्रिये ॥ ज्ञानयोगरतो भूत्वा पश्चाद्योगं समभ्यसेत् ॥ ४३ ॥
O beloved, at the outset the devotee shall worship me externally by means of Karmayajña. Then he shall resort to the path of knowledge. Afterwards he shall practise Yoga.
english translation
prathamaM karmayajJena bahiH sampUjya mAM priye ॥ jJAnayogarato bhUtvA pazcAdyogaM samabhyaset ॥ 43 ॥
