पशुपाशपतिज्ञानं ज्ञानमित्यभिधीयते ॥ षडध्वशुद्धिर्विधिना गुर्वधीना क्रियोच्यते ॥ ३१ ॥

Jñāna is the knowledge of Paśu, Pāśa and Pati. Kriyā is the purificatory rite in regard to the six paths under the instructions of the preceptor.

Yoga is the fixation of the mind in me, along the path indicated by me, restraining other activities.

अश्वमेधगणाच्छ्रेष्ठं देवि चित्तप्रसाधनम् ॥ मुक्तिदं च तथा ह्येतद्दुष्प्राप्यं विषयैषिणाम् ॥ ३४ ॥

O goddess, disciplining of the mind is far more excellent than many a horse-sacrifice. It is conducive to salvation. It is inaccessible to those who adhere to sensual objects.

azvamedhagaNAcchreSThaM devi cittaprasAdhanam ॥ muktidaM ca tathA hyetadduSprApyaM viSayaiSiNAm ॥ 34 ॥

विजितेंद्रियवर्गस्य यमेन नियमेन च ॥ पूर्वपापहरो योगो विरक्तस्यैव कथ्यते ॥ ३५ ॥

The Yoga that removes previous sins, belongs only to the unattached who has conquered the group of sense-organs by restraints and observances.
