कृष्ण उवाच ॥ भगवञ्छ्रोतुमिच्छामि शिवेन परिभाषितम् ॥ वेदसारे शिवज्ञानं स्वाश्रितानां विमुक्तये ॥ १ ॥
Lord Kṛṣṇa said:— My lord, I wish to hear what Lord Śiva has explained. Knowledge of Lord Śiva in the essence of the Vedas is for the liberation of those who depend on Him.
english translation
अभक्तानामबुद्धीनामयुक्तानामगोचरम् ॥ अर्थैर्दशर्धैः संयुक्तं गूढमप्राज्ञनिंदितम् ॥ २ ॥
It is invisible to the devotees, the foolish and the unsteady. It is combined with ten and a half meanings and is hidden and blasphemous to the ignorant.

वर्णाश्रमकृतैर्धर्मैर्विपरीतं क्वचित्समम् ॥ वेदात्षडंगादुद्धृत्य सांख्याद्योगाच्च कृत्स्नशः ॥ ३ ॥
At places it is opposed to the rites prescribed for the different castes and men in different stages of life. At places it is the same. It has been adopted from the Vedas, their ancillary texts and from the systems of Sāṅkhya and Yoga.

शतकोटिप्रमाणेन विस्तीर्णं ग्रंथसंख्यया ॥ कथितं परमेशेन तत्र पूजा कथं प्रभोः ॥ ४ ॥
It is about one hundred crore times as vast as the number of books. The Supreme Lord described how to worship the Lord there.

कस्याधिकारः पूजादौ ज्ञानयोगादयः कथम् ॥ तत्सर्वं विस्तरादेव वक्तुमर्हसि सुव्रत ॥ ५ ॥
Who has the right to perform worship, knowledge, yoga and other activities? O best of vows you should tell me all that in detail.
