वीरभद्र उवाच ॥ वयं ह्यनुचराः सर्वे शर्वस्यामिततेजसः ॥ भागाभिलिप्सया प्राप्ता भागो नस्संप्रदीयताम् ॥ १६ ॥
Vīrabhadra said:— We are the followers of lord Śiva of great splendour. We have come for our share. May that be given to us.
english translation
vIrabhadra uvAca ॥ vayaM hyanucarAH sarve zarvasyAmitatejasaH ॥ bhAgAbhilipsayA prAptA bhAgo nassaMpradIyatAm ॥ 16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथ चेदध्वरे ऽस्माकं न भागः परिकल्पितः ॥ कथ्यतां कारणं तत्र युध्यतां वा मयामरैः ॥ १७ ॥
If the share has not been allotted to us in the sacrifice let the reason be mentioned or let the gods fight with me.
english translation
atha cedadhvare 'smAkaM na bhAgaH parikalpitaH ॥ kathyatAM kAraNaM tatra yudhyatAM vA mayAmaraiH ॥ 17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइत्युक्तास्ते गणेंद्रेण देवा दक्षपुरोगमाः ॥ ऊचुर्मन्त्राः प्रमाणं नो न वयं प्रभवस्त्विति ॥ १८ ॥
When they were told thus by the chief of Gaṇas the gods headed by Dakṣa said—“The mantras are our authorities. We are not the lords.”
english translation
ityuktAste gaNeMdreNa devA dakSapurogamAH ॥ UcurmantrAH pramANaM no na vayaM prabhavastviti ॥ 18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमन्त्रा ऊचुस्सुरा यूयं मोहोपहतचेतसः ॥ येन प्रथमभागार्हं न यजध्वं महेश्वरम् ॥ १९ ॥
The Mantras said—“O gods, your minds are oppressed by Tamas. Hence you do not deserve the first share. Worship lord Śiva.”
english translation
mantrA UcussurA yUyaM mohopahatacetasaH ॥ yena prathamabhAgArhaM na yajadhvaM mahezvaram ॥ 19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमंत्रोक्ता अपि ते देवाः सर्वे संमूढचेतसः ॥ भद्राय न ददुर्भागं तत्प्रहाणमभीप्सवः ॥ २० ॥
Though advised by the Mantras the gods with deluded minds did not offer the share to Bhadra. They desired to drop him out.

maMtroktA api te devAH sarve saMmUDhacetasaH ॥ bhadrAya na dadurbhAgaM tatprahANamabhIpsavaH ॥ 20 ॥
