सूत उवाच पुरा कालेन महता कल्पेतीते पुनःपुनः ॥ अस्मिन्नुपस्थिते कल्पे प्रवृत्ते सृष्ठिकर्मणि ॥ १ ॥

Sūta Gosvāmī said: In the past, over a period of time, these kalpas passed again and again. In this approaching Kalpa the work of creation is underway.

प्रतिष्ठितायां वार्तायां प्रबुद्धासु प्रजासु च ॥ मुनीनां षट्कुलीयानां ब्रुवतामितरेतरम् ॥ २ ॥

When news was established and the people were enlightened The sages of the six families spoke to one another.

इदं परमिदं नेति विवादस्सुमहानभूत् ॥ परस्य दुर्निरूपत्वान्न जातस्तत्र निश्चयः ॥ ३ ॥

There was a great debate as to whether this was the highest or not. Because the other is poorly defined there is no certainty about it.

ते ऽभिजग्मुर्विधातारं द्रष्टुं ब्रह्माणमव्ययम् ॥ यत्रास्ते भगवान् ब्रह्मा स्तूयमानस्सुरासुरैः ॥ ४ ॥

In order to see the eternal creator they went where the lord was staying eulogised by gods and Asuras.

te 'bhijagmurvidhAtAraM draSTuM brahmANamavyayam ॥ yatrAste bhagavAn brahmA stUyamAnassurAsuraiH ॥ 4 ॥

मेरुशृंगे शुभे रम्ये देवदानवसंकुले ॥ सिद्धचारणसंवादे यक्षगंधर्वसेविते ॥ ५ ॥

It is situated on the auspicious and beautiful peak of Mount Meru, crowded with demigods and demons. In the conversation between the Siddhas and Charanas and attended by the Yakshas and Gandharvas.
