विसुस्रुवू रक्तवहास्तदन्तरे सरिच्च यास्तत्र विपुप्लुवे हतैः ॥ कचा भटानां जलनीलिकोपमास्तदुत्तरीयं सितफेनसंनिभम् ॥ २१ ॥
In the battlefield streams of blood flowed. The dead soldiers floated. Their tresses of hair resembled the moss. Their upper cloths resembled the white foam.

visusruvU raktavahAstadantare saricca yAstatra vipupluve hataiH ॥ kacA bhaTAnAM jalanIlikopamAstaduttarIyaM sitaphenasaMnibham ॥ 21 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतुरंगसादी तुरगाधिरोहिणं गजस्थितानभ्यपतन्गजारुहः ॥ रथी रथेशं खलु पत्तिरङ्घ्रिगान्समप्रतिद्वन्द्विकलिर्महानभूत् ॥ २२॥
A great fight ensued where soldiers of equal rank fought with one another. The cavalrymen fought their counterpart; the elephant-riders with those on elephants: the charioteers with those on chariots and the footsoldiers with footsoldiers.

turaMgasAdI turagAdhirohiNaM gajasthitAnabhyapatangajAruhaH ॥ rathI rathezaM khalu pattiraGghrigAnsamapratidvandvikalirmahAnabhUt ॥ 22॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततो निशुंभो हृदये व्यचिन्तयत्करालकालोयमुपागतोऽधुना ॥ भवेद्दरिद्रोऽपि महाधनो महाधनो दरिद्रो विपरीतकालतः ॥ २३॥
Then Niśumbha thought to himself—“A terrible period has set in now. Even a poor man may become rich and rich man poor if the time is adverse.

tato nizuMbho hRdaye vyacintayatkarAlakAloyamupAgato'dhunA ॥ bhaveddaridro'pi mahAdhano mahAdhano daridro viparItakAlataH ॥ 23॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptजडो भवेत्स्फीतमतिर्महामतिर्जडो नृशंसो बहुमन्तु संस्तुतः ॥ पराजयं याति रणे महाबला जयंति संग्राममुखे च दुर्बलाः ॥ २४॥
A senseless fellow may become intelligent and an intelligent man dull. A wicked man may be praised by the noble. The great and the powerful may be vanquished. The weak may come out victorious in the war.

jaDo bhavetsphItamatirmahAmatirjaDo nRzaMso bahumantu saMstutaH ॥ parAjayaM yAti raNe mahAbalA jayaMti saMgrAmamukhe ca durbalAH ॥ 24॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptजयोऽजयो वा परमेश्वरेच्छया भवत्यनायासत एव देहिनाम् ॥ न कालमुल्लंघ्य शशाक जीवितुं महेश्वरः पद्मजनी रमापतिः॥ २५॥
Victory or defeat come naturally at the stance of the lord. Neither Śiva nor Brahmā nor Viṣṇu has been able to transgress his law.

jayo'jayo vA paramezvarecchayA bhavatyanAyAsata eva dehinAm ॥ na kAlamullaMghya zazAka jIvituM mahezvaraH padmajanI ramApatiH॥ 25॥
