सूत उवाच ॥ सा रवेर्वचनं श्रुत्वा यथा तथ्यं न्यवेदयत् ॥ निर्दग्धा कामरविणा सांत्वयामास वै तदा ॥ २६ ॥

sanskrit

Sūta said:— On hearing the words of the sun she told him the truth. Scorched by him she consoled him thus.

english translation

sUta uvAca ॥ sA ravervacanaM zrutvA yathA tathyaM nyavedayat ॥ nirdagdhA kAmaraviNA sAMtvayAmAsa vai tadA ॥ 26 ॥

छायोवाच॥ तवातितेजसा दग्धा इदं रूपं न शोभते ॥ असहंती च तत्संज्ञा वने वसति शाद्वले ॥ २७॥

Chāyā said:— This fierce form of yours was not pleasant to Saṃjñā. She was scorched by your excessive brilliance. She could not bear it. She now resides on the grassy plain in a forest.

chAyovAca॥ tavAtitejasA dagdhA idaM rUpaM na zobhate ॥ asahaMtI ca tatsaMjJA vane vasati zAdvale ॥ 27॥

श्लाघ्या योगबलोपेता योगमासाद्य गोपते ॥ अनुकूलस्तु देवेश संदिश्यात्ममयं मतम् ॥ २८ ॥

sanskrit

O lord of rays, she is endowed with the power of Yoga. She has resorted to yogic practice. She is praiseworthy. O lord of gods, be favourable to her by sending the message of your opinion.

english translation

zlAghyA yogabalopetA yogamAsAdya gopate ॥ anukUlastu deveza saMdizyAtmamayaM matam ॥ 28 ॥

रूपं निवर्तयाम्यद्य तव कांतं करोम्यहम् ॥ सूत उवाच ॥ तच्छ्रुत्वाऽपगतः क्रोधो मार्तण्डस्य विवस्वतः ॥ २९॥

I shall change your form. I shall make it pleasingly brilliant. Sūta said:— On hearing this, the sun was appeased.

rUpaM nivartayAmyadya tava kAMtaM karomyaham ॥ sUta uvAca ॥ tacchrutvA'pagataH krodho mArtaNDasya vivasvataH ॥ 29॥

भ्रमिमारोप्य तत्तेजः शातयामास वै मुनिः ॥ ततो विभ्राजितं रूप तेजसा संवृतेन च ॥ ३० ॥

The sage Tvaṣṭṛ put him on the turner’s lathe and sharpened him further. His blazing form was slightly reduced in brilliance.

bhramimAropya tattejaH zAtayAmAsa vai muniH ॥ tato vibhrAjitaM rUpa tejasA saMvRtena ca ॥ 30 ॥
