॥ सूत उवाच ॥ विवस्वान्कश्यपाज्जज्ञे दाक्षायण्यां महाऋषेः ॥ तस्य भार्याऽभवत्संज्ञा त्वाष्ट्री देवी सुरेणुका ॥ १ ॥

Sūta said:— Vivasvata was born of Dakṣa’s daughter and Kaśyapa the great sage. His wife was Saṃjñā, daughter of Tvaṣṭṛ and also known as Sureṇukā.

english translation

॥ sUta uvAca ॥ vivasvAnkazyapAjjajJe dAkSAyaNyAM mahARSeH ॥ tasya bhAryA'bhavatsaMjJA tvASTrI devI sureNukA ॥ 1 ॥

मुनेऽसहिष्णुना तेन तेजसा दुस्सहेन च ॥ भर्तृरूपेण नातुष्यद्रूप यौवनशालिनी ॥ २ ॥

Due to the unbearable heat of her husband she in her prime of youth was dissatisfied.

आदित्यस्य हि तद्रूपमसहिष्णुस्तु तेजसः ॥ दह्यमाना तदोद्वेगमकरोद्वरवर्णिनी ॥ ३ ॥

Being scorched and not being able to hear the brilliance of the lustrous sun, the fair-complexioned lady was excited and sorrowful.

Adityasya hi tadrUpamasahiSNustu tejasaH ॥ dahyamAnA tadodvegamakarodvaravarNinI ॥ 3 ॥

ऋषेऽस्यां त्रीण्यपत्यानि जनयामास भास्करः ॥ संज्ञायां तु मनुः पूर्वं श्राद्धदेवः प्रजापतिः ॥ ४ ॥

The sun gave birth to three children by this sage In the noun Manu was formerly the god of shraddha and the creator.

RSe'syAM trINyapatyAni janayAmAsa bhAskaraH ॥ saMjJAyAM tu manuH pUrvaM zrAddhadevaH prajApatiH ॥ 4 ॥

यमश्च यमुना चैव यमलौ संबभूवतुः ॥ एवं हि त्रीण्यपत्यानि तस्यां जातानि सूर्य्यतः ॥ ५ ॥

Yama and Yamuna became the two Yamalas. Thus she had three children born to her from the sun.

yamazca yamunA caiva yamalau saMbabhUvatuH ॥ evaM hi trINyapatyAni tasyAM jAtAni sUryyataH ॥ 5 ॥
