तत्र त्वं शृणु सद्बुध्या चेतिहासं सुशोभितम् ॥ क्रमात्त्वां बोधयंतो हि प्रीत्या तमुपधारय ॥ ३१ ॥
Now listen to a true anecdote that sheds light thereon, with keen intellect. We are enlightening you out of love and affection, take it to heart.
english translation
tatra tvaM zRNu sadbudhyA cetihAsaM suzobhitam ॥ kramAttvAM bodhayaMto hi prItyA tamupadhAraya ॥ 31 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptब्रह्मपुत्रो हि यो दक्षस्सुषुवे पितुराज्ञया ॥ स्वपत्न्यामयुतं पुत्रानयुंक्त तपसि प्रियान् ॥ ३२ ॥
Dakṣa, the son of Brahmā, at the bidding of his father, begot ten thousand sons of his wife. He dearly loved them and employed them in performing a great penance.
english translation
brahmaputro hi yo dakSassuSuve piturAjJayA ॥ svapatnyAmayutaM putrAnayuMkta tapasi priyAn ॥ 32 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptते सुताः पश्चिमां दिशि नारायणसरो गताः ॥ तपोर्थे ते प्रतिज्ञाय नारदस्तत्र वै ययौ ॥ ३३ ॥
The sons went to the holy lake Nārāyaṇasaras in the western zone for performing penance. Nosing it out, Nārada too went there.
english translation
te sutAH pazcimAM dizi nArAyaNasaro gatAH ॥ taporthe te pratijJAya nAradastatra vai yayau ॥ 33 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकूटोपदेशमाश्राव्य तत्र तान्नारदो मुनिः ॥ तदाज्ञया च ते सर्वे पितुर्न गृहमाययुः ॥ ३४ ॥
Sage Nārada misled them with his deceptive instructions. At his instance, they never went back home to their father.
english translation
kUTopadezamAzrAvya tatra tAnnArado muniH ॥ tadAjJayA ca te sarve piturna gRhamAyayuH ॥ 34 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतच्छ्रुत्वा कुपितो दक्षः पित्राश्वासितमानसः ॥ उत्पाद्य पुत्रान्प्रायुंक्त सहस्रप्रमितांस्ततः ॥ ३५ ॥
On hearing this, Dakṣa was infuriated but his father consoled him. Thereafter he begot a thousand other sons and engaged them in penance.

tacchrutvA kupito dakSaH pitrAzvAsitamAnasaH ॥ utpAdya putrAnprAyuMkta sahasrapramitAMstataH ॥ 35 ॥
