आभाष्य चैवं गिरिजा च मेनकां मैनाकबंधुं पितरं हिमालयम् ॥ तूष्णीं बभूवाशु सुभाषिणी शिवा समंदरं पर्वतराजबालिका ॥१६॥
After addressing thus, her father Himalaya, her mother Menakā, her brothers Maināka and Mandara, the eloquent Pārvatī, the daughter of the king of mountains, kept quiet.
english translation
AbhASya caivaM girijA ca menakAM mainAkabaMdhuM pitaraM himAlayam ॥ tUSNIM babhUvAzu subhASiNI zivA samaMdaraM parvatarAjabAlikA ॥16॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptजग्मुस्तथोक्ताः शिवया हि पर्वता यथागतेनापि विचक्षणास्ते ॥ प्रशंसमाना गिरिजा मुहुर्मुहुस्सुविस्मिता हेमनगेश्वराद्याः ॥ १७॥
Thus addressed by Pārvatī, the lord of mountains and the other mountains went back the way they came, surprised within and praising her.
english translation
jagmustathoktAH zivayA hi parvatA yathAgatenApi vicakSaNAste ॥ prazaMsamAnA girijA muhurmuhussuvismitA hemanagezvarAdyAH ॥ 17॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptगतेषु तेषु सूर्येषु सखीभिः परिवारिता ॥ तपस्तेपे तदधिकं परमार्थसुनिश्चया ॥ १८ ॥ ॥ ॥
After all of them had departed, she with firm resolve in the great Truth, accompanied by her maids performed a severe penance.
english translation
gateSu teSu sUryeSu sakhIbhiH parivAritA ॥ tapastepe tadadhikaM paramArthasunizcayA ॥ 18 ॥ ॥ ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतपसा महता तेन तप्तमासीच्चराचरम् ॥ त्रैलोक्यं हि मुनिश्रेष्ठ सदेवासुरमानुषम् ॥ १९ ॥
O excellent sage, by that great penance the three worlds including the gods, Asuras and men, nay all the mobile and immobile beings, became heated.
english translation
tapasA mahatA tena taptamAsIccarAcaram ॥ trailokyaM hi munizreSTha sadevAsuramAnuSam ॥ 19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतदा सुरासुराः सर्वे यक्षकिन्नरचारणाः॥ सिद्धास्साध्याश्च मुनयो विद्याधरमहोरगाः॥ ॥ 2-3-23-२० ॥
The Prajāpatis, the Guhyakas and others experienced great distress but could not understand the reason thereof.

tadA surAsurAH sarve yakSakinnaracAraNAH॥ siddhAssAdhyAzca munayo vidyAdharamahoragAH॥ ॥ 2-3-23-20 ॥
