सप्रजापतयश्चैव गुह्यकाश्च तथापरे ॥ कष्टात् कष्टतरं प्राप्ताः कारणं न विदुः स्म तत् ॥२१॥
The gods, Asuras, Yakṣas, Kinnaras, Cāraṇas, Siddhas, Sādhyas, the sages, the serpents and the Vidyādharas too had the same experience.
english translation
saprajApatayazcaiva guhyakAzca tathApare ॥ kaSTAt kaSTataraM prAptAH kAraNaM na viduH sma tat ॥21॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसर्वे मिलित्वा शक्राद्या गुरुमामंत्र्य विह्वलाः ॥ सुमेरौ तप्तसर्वांगा विधिं मां शरणं ययुः ॥ २२ ॥
All of them, Indra and others, who were extremely agitated, took leave of their preceptor and sought refuge in me on the mountain Sumeru. All their limbs had been scorched.
english translation
sarve militvA zakrAdyA gurumAmaMtrya vihvalAH ॥ sumerau taptasarvAMgA vidhiM mAM zaraNaM yayuH ॥ 22 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत्र गत्वा प्रणम्याशु विह्वला नष्टसुत्विषः ॥ ऊचुस्सर्वे च संस्तूय ह्यैकपद्येन मां हि ते ॥ २३ ॥
Devoid of splendour, and agitated excessively they bowed to and eulogised me. They spoke simultaneously thus.
english translation
tatra gatvA praNamyAzu vihvalA naSTasutviSaH ॥ Ucussarve ca saMstUya hyaikapadyena mAM hi te ॥ 23 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदेवा ऊचुः ॥ त्वया सृष्टमिदं सर्वं जगदेतच्चराचरम् ॥ संतप्तमति कस्माद्वै न ज्ञातं कारणं विभो॥२४॥
The gods said: O lord, the whole of this universe consisting of the mobile and immobile has been created by you. Why is it scorched so much? We do not understand.
english translation
devA UcuH ॥ tvayA sRSTamidaM sarvaM jagadetaccarAcaram ॥ saMtaptamati kasmAdvai na jJAtaM kAraNaM vibho॥24॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतद्ब्रूहि कारणं ब्रह्मन् ज्ञातुमर्हसि नः प्रभो ॥ दग्धभूततनून्देवान् त्वत्तो नान्योऽस्ति रक्षक ॥२८॥
O Brahmā, please tell us the reason. O lord, you shall protect us, the gods whose bodies have been scorched. There is none else to protect us.

tadbrUhi kAraNaM brahman jJAtumarhasi naH prabho ॥ dagdhabhUtatanUndevAn tvatto nAnyo'sti rakSaka ॥28॥
