Brahmā said: O excellent sage, the lord of the mountains having thus explained to Menakā, both of them remained watching its result, pure in mind.

Thus, when a few days had passed, the Supreme Lord (Paramesha), who is the refuge of the virtuous, overcome with intense sorrow due to separation from Sati, wandered everywhere in a state of deep agitation, behaving like one distraught or mad with grief.

There (to the place of penance) arrived the Lord, endowed with countless virtues, with great inner devotion and love. His mind was deeply agitated due to separation from Sati, and he came to perform penance, seeking solace in asceticism.
